Meet Dr. Amy Tanchyk
Amy Tanchyk, DMD, MD, grew up in East Brunswick, right down the road from Oral Surgery Group. She is the youngest of three children. Her father is a general dentist, and Dr. Tanchyk’s journey to becoming an oral and maxillofacial surgeon began at a young age during visits to her father’s dental practice, where she was moved by how her father was able to help his patients get out of pain. In Dr. Tanchyk’s second year of dental school at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine in Newark, NJ, her interest was piqued by the more specialized field of oral surgery. At school, seeing oral surgery procedures firsthand inspired her — she became very interested in the immediate gratification of being able to solve problems for people and help them in life-changing ways.
Dr. Tanchyk moved back to the East Brunswick area with her husband in July of 2018 to join Oral Surgery Group. She was drawn to the practice because she admired the doctors’ patient-centered, compassionate approach to oral and maxillofacial surgery and is thrilled to join such an accomplished team of doctors. Dr. Tanchyk would like her patients to know that she is very understanding about the anxiety that can sometimes come with undergoing oral surgery procedures and works hard to ease her patient’s concerns and make them as comfortable as they can be. Dr. Tanchyk always spends time talking with her patients to guide them through each step of their treatment so they will know what to expect. She is passionate about providing the very best oral surgery results while supporting her patients emotionally with excellent communication so that their oral surgery is a positive experience every time.
As a resident, Dr. Tanchyk made several trips abroad on dental missions to Bangladesh, as well as Honduras and Ecuador, to provide surgical repair of cleft lip and palate for patients in need. It was enormously gratifying for her to provide this kind of care to patients who had not been treated for their conditions as infants. These humanitarian missions had a profound effect on Dr. Tanchyk — the opportunity to provide such life-changing treatment for patients deepened her love for the practice of oral surgery.
